Perhaps the idea has been with you for a while. It came up in a joke, in a late-night conversation or in a look exchanged at just the right moment, and it keeps coming back. Curiosity is a wonderful feeling, but it almost always brings questions: what does a place like this look like, how do people behave there, what is expected of you and, above all, what happens if you change your mind.

This guide answers those questions as honestly as we can. We wrote it from what we see every weekend at Bad Romance and from what couples therapists who work with people in this lifestyle recommend. It is not trying to persuade you to come. It simply helps you decide with full knowledge and, if you do come, enjoy the evening without needless worries.

It all starts with a conversation between the two of you

The most important part of a first visit happens at home, a few days before. Talk about what attracts you and what makes you nervous. A few questions that usually open the conversation:

  • What exactly intrigues us: the atmosphere, the play of glances, the idea of being admired together, or simply the curiosity to see what such a place is like?
  • What is fine for each of us on the first night, and what is absolutely off the table?
  • How will we know that one of us wants a break or wants to leave?

Couples therapists have one simple rule: the more hesitant partner sets the pace. Not the bolder one, and not the one who had the idea. And if one of you does not want this yet, the right answer is “not yet”. A reluctant “yes” is not a yes, and no night at a club is worth a crack in your relationship.

Agree on a discreet signal, a word or a gesture, that lets either of you stop anything, at any time, without explanation. Just knowing it exists will reassure you more than you expect.

A first visit can simply be a night out for two

Many people imagine that visiting a swingers club automatically means swapping partners. It does not. For many couples, the first night is about the atmosphere: a drink at the bar, music, conversations with people who have felt the same nerves, and the unusual feeling that nobody here is judging you.

Specialists recommend exactly that: on your first visit, stay together. Explore the place, observe, talk. For many couples, the biggest surprise of the evening is not the other guests but themselves: how they look at each other in a new place, how close they feel when they share a small secret. If you feel good and want more, you will know. That may happen on your second visit, your tenth, or never, and each of those is just as fine.

Booking, and what is good to know beforehand

At Bad Romance, entry is by reservation only, by phone, WhatsApp or email, and only for people aged 21 and over. If it is your first visit, tell us when you book: it helps us welcome you properly.

Parties take place on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 PM to 5 AM, and themed nights, each with its own dress code, are announced on our parties page. If you would like a quieter start, arrive early: you will have time to settle in before the evening picks up.

A few practical points: you cannot bring your own drinks, and valuables are best left at home. For any play with other people, always use condoms: your health and everyone else’s comes before any fantasy.

What to wear

The basic rule: wear something you feel good and attractive in. Gentlemen usually choose an elegant outfit, and ladies something that flatters them: a dress they feel seductive in, a daring detail, or simply their usual elegance. Grooming and attitude matter, not a particular body type.

After 1 AM, the play areas are open only to guests in lingerie or in the towels provided by the club. The rule applies to the playrooms, not the bar, so nobody will ask you to change if you do not want to go in.

Arrival: a tour with the host

When you arrive, the club’s host welcomes you, shows you around the villa and answers any question, however basic it may seem. The changing rooms are in the basement, the lounge bar, where people socialise, is on the ground floor, and the six playrooms, each decorated in a different style, are on the first and second floors.

The tour has an effect few people anticipate: once you have seen every space with your own eyes, the unknown disappears and the nerves usually turn into curiosity.

At the bar, at your own pace

The lounge is the heart of the evening. This is where people meet, dance, laugh and exchange glances. If a couple intrigues you, a smile and a conversation are the natural start. Always talk to both partners, not just one of them: it is a sign of respect that people at the club notice straight away.

A drink helps you relax, but several blur exactly what matters: paying attention to your partner and to your own limits. The club does not admit anyone who is intoxicated, and the bar serves alcohol until 2:30 AM.

And if you receive an invitation that does not tempt you, “thank you, not tonight” is enough. Here a polite refusal is accepted as it is: it is part of the etiquette of the place.

Consent, in short

At Bad Romance the rule is simple: only “yes” means yes. Ask before any touch. Silence, hesitation or one drink too many do not mean consent. Anyone can change their mind at any time, without explanation, and the rule applies between partners too.

A closed playroom door means the people inside want privacy. Taking photos or filming is forbidden, inside and outside the club. If anything bothers you, tell the host or the staff: that is exactly why they are there, and our security staff make sure the rules are respected. You will find all the details in the club rules and the etiquette guidelines.

Every emotion is normal

You may feel excitement, shyness, a hint of jealousy and a curiosity that surprises you, all in the same evening. All of it is natural. Jealousy does not mean you have done something wrong; it is simply a signal that it is time to come closer to each other. Holding hands, a look, or a few minutes together on a sofa are often enough.

You can leave at any time, without explanation and without answering to anyone. More often than not, that very freedom is what helps people relax.

The next day: the conversation that matters most

Therapists who work with couples in this lifestyle insist on one thing: the conversation afterwards. Talk calmly the next day about what you enjoyed, what surprised you and what you would not want to repeat. Studies of couples in consensually open relationships reach the same conclusion: honest communication and keeping your partner first are the things most closely linked to a good relationship.

Perhaps you will discover that you enjoyed it more than you expected. Perhaps you learned something new about each other. Or perhaps it was an interesting experience you do not feel the need to repeat. Every outcome is a good one, as long as you choose it together.
